December 2010

The December issue of "The Artist's" magazine will feature the winners in it's annual art competition. This year John's painting, "Winter Windfall" is being honored with a first place award in the landscape Division.

September 2010

John will appear at the Quest for the West show in Indianapolis, IN. See the "Shows" page for more details.

September 2010

John's work is included in a four page article (begins on page 208) regarding the upcoming Quest for the West show in the September 2010 issue of Western Art Collector magazine. Look for his ad in the same issue. If you don't already get this magazine and are interested in original works and quality art shows, consider looking for it at the newstand or subscribe to it. Fall 2010

The Fall issue of Western Pennsylvania History magazine, the publication of the John Heinz History Center in Pittsburgh, will include a short profile of Dan and Bonnie Sandman and their philanthropy with the History Center. In 2008, Dan & Bonnie commissioned the five foot Buxton painting -- "Washington At The Point - 1753 " -- with the idea that it will eventually belong to the Heinz History Center.

Recently John has given permission to three different authors of up coming history books, to use his paintings to illustrate passages in their books. Each book will use a different Buxton painting as the cover art for that book. These three will join a book by the Historical Publications section of the North Carolina Office of Archives & History, which will be using "A Glimpse Of Red" for their book titled Indian Wars in North Carolina 1663-1763. These are but a small few -- too many books to list, as well as numerous Historical sites that display John's paintings to better explain history visually to their visitors.

June 2010

In mid June, a new date this year, the 13th annual History Meets The Arts show in Gettysburg, PA was very successful for John. Both of his original paintings "Make Smoke" and "As A Feather On Water" were purchased , and a new collector bought "Deserter In A Tight Spot" (a.k.a "Lost and Found") As always, this was a great get together for all of the artists and the collectors.

May 2010

John ventured to the far western corner of Virginia to attend an event at historic Martin's Station. It was his first visit to this site. Several other artists were there and some had set up displays of their work inside the visitor's center. This is a wonderful site with a reconstructed fort and great scenery. John managed to take numerous photographs that may be used to influence future paintings. He plans to attend again next year.

2009

John did not take a sabbatical or anything, he just admittedly didn't update any info for 2009 on this section of the site. He did spend the year painting for shows as well as commissions, and traveled for research and inspiration for further paintings. He blames the lack of attention on updating the site, to his excitement in winning the 2009 Quest for the West show Patron's Choice Award for his painting, "Winter Windfall"!

September 5-6, 2008

John will appear at the "QUEST FOR THE WEST SHOW" and sale at the Eiteljorg Museum in Indianapolis, IN. He will be exhibiting three original paintings. See John's ad in the "WESTERN ART COLLECTOR Magazine" on Page 95.

August, 2008

John is featured in the August issue of "WESTERN ART COLLECTOR Magazine". See page 56 which is a double page spread of "The Fording Place." This is the title page for an article about three Eastern artists who live in the East and paint Eastern subject matter and yet they are considered Western genre artists. Two other of John's paintings and several by the other artists are respresented as well. James Nottage of the Eiteljorg Museum wrote the article titled, Gateway to the West.

February 21, 2007

John's latest painting "Wet Way - Washington's Choice" is now on the website in the Historical Vignettes gallery. This painting was one of John's entries in the Masters of the American West show held by the Autry National Center in Burbank, Ca. His other entries were "Water Song" and "Fresh Sign - Right There - Braddock's Trace." "Wet Way - Washington's Choice" is being used by the Autry Center on the large banner it put on the front of the building announcing the show.

May 20, 2006

John is pleased to announce that he was recently accepted into membership in the Oil Painters of America. This organization conducts juried competitions, both regional and national, to allow exceptional artists producing works in the traditional, representational style.
