Fall 2010
The Fall issue of Western Pennsylvania History magazine, the publication
of the John Heinz History Center in Pittsburgh, will include a short
profile of Dan and Bonnie Sandman and their philanthropy with the
History Center. In 2008, Dan & Bonnie commissioned the five foot
Buxton painting -- "Washington
At The Point - 1753 " -- with the idea that it will eventually
belong to the Heinz History Center.

| Recently John has given permission to three
different authors of up coming history books, to use his paintings
to illustrate passages in their books. Each book will use a different
Buxton painting as the cover art for that book. These three will join
a book by the Historical Publications section of the North Carolina
Office of Archives & History, which will be using "A
Glimpse Of Red" for their book titled Indian Wars in North Carolina
1663-1763. These are but a small few -- too many books to list, as
well as numerous Historical sites that display John's paintings to
better explain history visually to their visitors. |

May 2010
John ventured to the far western corner of Virginia to attend
an event at historic Martin's
Station. It was his first visit to this site. Several other
artists were there and some had set up displays of their work inside
the visitor's center. This is a wonderful site with a reconstructed
fort and great scenery. John managed to take numerous photographs
that may be used to influence future paintings. He plans to attend
again next year.

2009
John did not take a sabbatical or anything, he just admittedly
didn't update any info for 2009 on this section of the site. He
did spend the year painting for shows as well as commissions, and
traveled for research and inspiration for further paintings. He
blames the lack of attention on updating the site, to his excitement
in winning the 2009 Quest for the West show Patron's Choice Award
for his painting, "Winter Windfall"!

August, 2008
John is featured in the August issue of
"WESTERN ART COLLECTOR Magazine". See page 56 which is a double
page spread of "The Fording Place."
This is the title page for an article about three Eastern artists
who live in the East and paint Eastern subject matter and yet they
are considered Western genre artists. Two other of John's paintings
and several by the other artists are respresented as well. James
Nottage of the Eiteljorg Museum wrote the article titled, Gateway
to the West.
