The red coat with black facing and its silver lace was worn by the governor of Connecticut's first company of the foot guard in the late 18th century. Benedict Arnold had likewise worn such a uniform as part of this foot guard. This foot guard unit is still in existence in Connecticut today — the uniform has changed.
