Troops of the British Royal American
Regiment seek a moment of sanctuary. It is September 1758 along
the high ledges above Loyalhanna Creek, where Fort Ligonier will
be constructed. An army under General John Forbes with his second-in-command,
Lieutenant Colonel Henry Boquet, are constructing an inland road
through the wilds of Pennsylvania. Their objective is to capture
the French stronghold at the forks of the Ohio River Fort
Duquesne. This "Forbes Road" was not the route taken by General
Braddock's army three years earlier in its unsuccessful attempt
on Fort Duquesne. General Forbes, however, successfully completed
his road and his objective.
