The 60th Royal American Regiment came
to the colonies circa 1755, during the French and Indian war. They
learned, through misfortune, fighting here was not conducted according
to European standards. Rarely did opposing forces confront one another
open meadow style in formal rank.
John's two paintings, "Fatherly
Advice " (shown here) and its companion painting, "A
Daughter's Touch" deal with lighter moments. An officer
counsels his young drummer and flag bearer. Could they be his own
sons? Could he be giving words that might save their lives?
