Native people of eastern North America no longer enjoy the lifestyle existing before contact with Europeans. It might be said their original way is extinct. So it is also with our only indigenous parrot species of the same area and time. When this colorful flocking bird threatened European settlers crops, they were soon eliminated. This is the Carolina Parakeet.



Reproductions of this painting were produced. The image was used as part of the 2007 History Meets the Arts show poster.
