"The Better Life"

Europeans introduced North American native people to wool and linen cloth to replace their clothing fashioned from animal hides. Trade axes and knives of metal supplanted those of stone and a black powder musket became desired over traditional bows and arrows.

A better life, perhaps, but loss of an independent culture - to become more and more dependent on the encroaching tide of white traders.
